Started in the 1920's with a camp lookout, the first structure here was a log cabin with cupola, built in 1924. It was destroyed in a 1958 forest fire. Apparently 20 years passed before anyone decided to built another lookout here, this time on the north point. The present 2-story concrete base with modified flat cab was built in 1978 and is occasionally staffed during the summer.
