Originally developed by the Forest Service in 1934, the first tower was a 20' pole L-4. It was destroyed about 1950. In 1997, the Silver Mountain Ski Area constructed this handicap-accessible replica of the L-4 cab. Although its primary use is for a summertime tourist attraction, carpenters were not even finished constructing it when the interpretive guide on-site reported a real, live forest fire! Mark another one for lookouts! |
