It all began with a crow's nest tree lookout in 1921. About 1928, a frame cabin living quarters was added. In 1935, the present 72' steel tower was constructed, and a new ground cabin was built in 1940. The lookout is staffed in the summer, and is listed on the National Historic Lookout Register.
