Martin Point never had a permanent lookout structure. Instead, a rather ingenious solution to temporary lookout needs came out of Forest Service Region 1: the pop-up mobile lookout trailer. The USFS developed and built a half dozen trailers in 1959, and they have been used at several sites where constructing a permanent structure was not necessary. The mobile lookouts even had luxuries most permanent lookouts envied such as propane-fueled lights, oven, refrigerator, and furnace, plus hot running water and a shower! In the 1970's the trailers saw use as aircraft control centers at small airstrips during fire emergencies, but they have since all been retired from active service.
