FIVEMILE BUTTE LOOKOUT
First used in the 1920's with a 30' pole tower, a 30' pole L-4 tower replaced it in 1932. This was destroyed by heavy snow in 1942, replaced by another L-4 tower with an unconventional inside trap door. The present 30' treated timber tower topped with an R-6 flat cab was built in 1957. The lookout is presently on the Recreation Rental program. There was also a patrol tree platform 1 mile south atop Pebble Point.
