BUCK MOUNTAIN LOOKOUT
Started in 1919 with a crow's nest tree lookout and a log cabin, a 20' pole tower with L-4 cab was built in 1934. The present 20' wooden tower with live-in cab, built in 1961, is used periodically during the summer to detect fires after lightning storms, and is listed on the National Historic Lookout Register. The tower was damaged during a 2015 forest fire. Known lookout personnel: 1920: Fred Cole; 1947: Mr. & Mrs. S. Jones; 1953: Allen Sheldon; 1955-1958: Bonnie Cates; 1960-1961: Sandra Mosby.
